We aim to arrange collection as soon as possible once you accept your quote, sometimes the same day. The exact timing can depend on factors like the vehicle’s condition, whether it has keys, and how accessible the location is.
If you need to change the date we’ve arranged, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.
We always try our best to collect within a set time period. As we often have multiple collections in a day, timing can occasionally shift due to unforeseen circumstances, but we’ll keep you up to date.
We work seven days a week, and always aim to collect at a time that’s mutually convenient. Let us know of any particular requirements and we’ll do our best to accommodate them.
Your car doesn’t need to be at your home address or on a public road, but it should be on stable ground our recovery vehicle can access. If the location is difficult to access, let us know beforehand so we can bring the right equipment.
In rare cases, unforeseen circumstances can cause delays. We’ll always try to contact you beforehand about any significant delay. If you haven’t heard from the driver, contact us and we’ll resolve it as soon as possible.
We don’t expect the car to be waxed and polished, but we’d appreciate it if personal items or rubbish were removed before collection, to keep the process quick and easy for everyone.

All sets of vehicle keys, photo ID, a utility bill less than 3 months old, the V5C (log book) if you have it, and any other paperwork you may have for the vehicle.
The V5C, any vehicle history you have such as MOTs, service history or receipts of work, alongside your ID and utility bill.
Both you and the collector need to complete and sign section 9 of the V5C document; it’s then your responsibility to send it to the DVLA. Our collection team can help with any questions.
Section 9 of the V5C, as above. If you’re unable to provide the V5C, the DVLA needs to be informed by the registered keeper that the vehicle has been sold and who to.
You and the collector fill out section 9 of the V5C, then send it to the DVLA. If this isn’t done, you could be fined and liable for future tickets or fines. Once scrapped, you’ll receive a Certificate of Destruction as proof.
You can still scrap the vehicle. You can apply for a replacement via a V62 form, or scrap the vehicle and have a Certificate of Destruction issued, with proof of ID and ownership requested.
Provide any previous car history you have when the vehicle is collected, such as old MOTs, service history or receipts of completed work.
Yes, provide any paperwork you have to our collector. Once section 9 of the V5C is completed, you’re responsible for sending that part to the DVLA.
You won’t receive a receipt from the collector, but you’ll get an email confirmation from Scrapping A Car, plus a Certificate of Destruction once your car has been scrapped.
The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 requires photo ID to legally identify you when scrapping a vehicle — a standard procedure to stop rogue traders.
A waste carriers license, issued by the Environment Agency, applies to anyone who transports, disposes, buys or sells waste on their own or others’ behalf. All of our collectors hold an up-to-date license.
An official DVLA document you receive once your car has been depolluted and recycled in line with government guidelines by an Authorised Treatment Facility, such as Scrapping A Car.
Our quotes are provided subject to inspection. If you’ve accurately described your vehicle, your quote is guaranteed; if the vehicle isn’t as described, the price can be recalculated.
Yes, but it’s a simple process. Once collected, complete section 9 of the V5C and send it to the DVLA. Without it, the registered keeper needs to inform the DVLA in writing.
You can declare SORN online, over the phone, or at the post office. Once declared, the vehicle must be kept off all public highways.
Once collected, inform your insurer that you wish to cancel and that the car has been sold for scrap. If you pay annually, you may be eligible for reimbursement — contact your insurer directly to check.
Once your vehicle has been disposed of, you’ll receive a Certificate of Destruction, which you can pass on to your insurance company.
Inform the DVLA once your vehicle is collected and the V5C is filled out, to check if you’re eligible for a tax reimbursement. Contact them directly for details and eligibility.
